How to establish access permission for networked computers in Windows XP?

I have set up a local network of 2 computers at home, but when trying access this computer on the local network it says the computer is not accesible, contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. How do I establish the access permissions, I have admistrator rights on both computers ?

1. Under MyComputer (properties) set Workgroup to the same name.



2. Use ''set up home network connection'' under Network Tasks. THis shud appear when u open my computer on the left screen



3. Now u need to know howu have connected 2 pcs together. Directly or indirectly(thru gateway/switch/router).



4. Once the set up is done restart both pcs. go to Start%26gt;run%26gt;cmd and type ipconfig get the ip address for both. Then from One pc type ping %26lt;ipaddress of other%26gt;. if succss ful then u r on the right way..

try pinging the other computer, if your network configuration is correct and can't ping the other computer, try switching off some active firewalls and try again, or enable filesharing.
