What is the maximum number of wireless computers working off of a 2Wire 1701HG modem?

Home Network - Currently have 3 wireless laptop computers and 1 desktop ethernet computer (3-XP, 1-Vista) working off of a 2wire 1701HG modem. Tried to add a 5th wireless computer (Vista), the modem would not accept the entry of the 5th computer.

Capacity for a router serving DHCP is 253 computers/devices.

Not that you'd really want 253 machines connected to your home router, so it's usually defaulted to a low number.

How many computers the router will serve is in the router setup: ie the router may be set at starting address 192.168.0.2 and ending address 192.168.0.5, you'll need to login to the router and set the ending address higher to accommodate more computers/devices.
For a 2wire 1701hg modem, you can connect as many as 5 computers wirelessly. You did not provide what error message you're getting on your screen when you tried to connect the 5th computer wirelessly.
